FOUNDING ORGANISATIONS

Santos Organics

Santos Organics is a not-for-profit environmental charity operating retail stores in the Byron Shire and an online store servicing Australia. Their mission is to empower people and communities to live in a healthy and sustainable way. They are heavily focused on providing consumers with the highest quality organic food and natural products that maximise health benefits for people, communities and the environment. They have been serving organic bulk foods since the early 1970’s and are paving the way for a new community and environment centered retail model that brings a multitude of benefits to people and the environment.

Clean Coast Collective

Clean Coast Collective is a not-for-profit lifestyle brand shifting consumer behaviour away from unnecessary plastics and running large-scale clean up expeditions in remote Australia. In 2016, Clean Coast Collective launched its first products designed to give consumers modern and luxury alternatives to single-use and disposable plastics. All profits from the product sales go back into the organisation to fund their beach clean-up expeditions, such as their 2015 Trash Tribe expedition which removed over 3.1 tonnes of marine debris off a single beach in Cape York. In this way, Clean Coast Collective’s impact is two-fold; by purchasing their products, consumers are cutting plastics from their daily lives, stopping the plastic flow at the source, and expeditions clean up the pollution already in our coastal environments. Start living the #cleancoastlife at www.cleancoastcollective.org or join our community on Instagram (@cleancoastcollective) or Facebook.

Mullum Cares

Mullum Cares begun in 2015 after Sasha Mainsbridge had surveyed and assisted business in Mullumbimby to make sustainable changes. This Sustainable Business Coaching and Community Organising organisation co-ordinated the Mullumbimby trader activity during Plastic Free July in 2016 that had many lasting outcomes including the Mullumbimby IGA permanently ceasing to supply plastic carry bags (150 000 per year) and the successful crowdfunding of a permanent filtered drinking fountain and water bottle refill station for the main street in Mullumbimby.  Mullum Cares has also worked with Splendour in the Grass, the Mullum Music Festival and the Falls Festival on different waste stream issues.

Ofa Moana Conservation

Ofa Moana Conservation is all about protecting what you love through positive change.

The organisation was formed to provide a platform for ocean lovers to inspire and act for our oceans.

We believe that change only comes about through positivity and love, and through school talks, workshops and sharing ideas we hope to foster a love for our oceans, as well as a progression towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

Boomerang Bags Byron Bay

Boomerang Bags Byron Bay is a community driven initiative tackling plastic pollution at the grassroots level.

Dedicated schools, community groups, businesses and volunteers get together to make re-useable ‘Boomerang Bags’ using recycled materials as a means to replace plastic bags.

Through Boomerang Bags we start conversations, make friends, up-cycle materials and work towards shifting society’s throw away mentality to a more sustainable revolution of re-use – one community, needle and thread at a time!

Wild Search Byron Bay

Wild Search Byron Bay (WSBB) was founded in 2014 as an environmental education business by Northern Rivers local and Ecologist, Caitlin Weatherstone. WSBB currently offers nature connection sessions as ‘Rewilding Women’, skill-share workshops, rewilding activities and nature-based events.

These events and workshops are designed to help nurture nature-connection in women and children and to foster a love for the environment within our community.

Bolsa Bags

Bolsa Bags (BB) was established in 2014 as a small business focused in repurposing soft plastic waste, giving it a second chance by extending its life cycle to create awareness and educate the community while allowing founder Enriqueta Marquez express herself.

BB has been showcasing a new way to up-cycle soft plastic to make it into useable and long lasting bags and other accessories. Selling online and at local markets these products make a statement about a better way to use our ‘trash’.

BB was an active member of the first Plastic Free July campaign in the Byron Shire working together with local Primary Schools with an outstanding support that was a key factor in local IGA Mullumbimby going plastic bag free helping kids to shape the future they want.

BB is now involved in the Plastic Free Byron project and is also developing “Trashic”, a new project to be released this year. To stay tuned, visit www.bolsabags.com.au or follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
